Organic Farming

A significant part of the farm has been certified organic, to strict Soil Association standards, for several years. Around 200 acres on the Mendips are now home to one of Britain’s largest flocks of pedigree Cotswold sheep (a rare breed) and a herd of Aberdeen Angus suckler beef cattle.  At the Ubley Warren farm, a flock of over 200 Columbian Black Tail hens produce Soil Association certified organic eggs.

The remainder of the farm completed its two-year organic conversion process in May 2009.  This means that the Lakemead dairy herd and the arable land which is used to grow the animals' winter feed is managed organically, with no artificial fertilisers or pesticides used.

The beef, lamb and eggs are used in our staff restaurants and sold to our staff, alongside the vegetables and salads that we also grow on the farm. Even the Cotswolds’ wool is spun, dyed in natural colours and knitted into organic sweaters making Yeo Valley Organic the only yogurt brand that we know of that has a designer clothing range!
