We Need to Build a Bigger Trophy Cabinet
It looks as if Yeo Valley Organic is soon going to have to install an extension to its trophy cabinet...
Just weeks after being presented with its second Queen's Award for Sustainable Development, the country's leading organic food company has taken top place in the dairy category of the annual Food Manufacture Excellence Awards.
Announced at a reception at the Dorchester Hotel in London, the Award was made for the company's 'exceptional commitment to continuous improvement.'
There were record entries for the Awards and in the dairy category, Yeo Valley was competing with some of the country's best known companies, including Dairy Farmers of Britain and Nestle.
In the end though, its unique approach to manufacturing, energy conservation and quality helped it win top place and its recently introduced range of children's yogurts, that are high in fruit content while low in sugar, came in for special praise.
The citation for the Award, that was presented to marketing director Ben Cull, said: "Yeo Valley has minimised its environmental impact with local sourcing, packaging, recycling and a redesigned manufacturing process to reduce energy usage. The judges were particularly impressed with the amount of work the company has done on increasing the amount of fruit in its children's range."
Explained Ben Cull: "We have one simple aim, which is to always set the best possible standard in everything we do. Awards like this are very important to us as they show that others, who are completely independent, feel that's just what we achieve"
"We are particularly proud of our children's range, which has become one of the most popular children's products in the dairy cabinet, so everyone involved in its development is delighted it has been singled out for special praise. The trophy we have been given will now take it's place alongside one we won earlier in the year from Good Housekeeping Magazine, when our adult yogurts won the readers' vote for 'Best Healthy Eating Range".
